- From the Flacq Market to the Table
One of our favorites for experiencing the most authentic side of Mauritius. The experience begins with a stroll through the Flacq market, surrounded by tropical fruits, spices, vegetables, and local produce. Back at the hotel, the journey continues alongside the chef as you learn to prepare a traditional Mauritian curry before sitting down to enjoy what you’ve cooked.
- YŪGEN by TAPASAKE
An intimate experience by the lagoon that begins at sunset on the Zen Jetty with cocktails and canapés, and continues with a private candlelit dinner created by TAPASAKE’s chef. One of the most special options for a romantic dinner for two.
- Barefoot on the Peninsula
A private picnic in one of the most peaceful spots on the peninsula. The team prepares a personalized basket filled with local products and flavors to enjoy by the sea, with no set schedule and the feeling of having a little piece of Mauritius all to yourself.
- Mauritian Barbecue Experience
At the northern tip of the peninsula, tandoor ovens, embers, and charcoal grills take center stage in a dinner prepared right before guests' eyes. An experience designed to be shared with family or friends and to discover Mauritian flavors in a much more informal setting.
- A table just for two
A private dinner can be arranged practically anywhere you can imagine: on the jetty, by the lagoon, on the beach under a bohemian-inspired canopy, or in the privacy of a suite or villa. Personalized menus, private service, and a setting chosen just for the occasion turn dinner into a completely bespoke experience.
- Chef's Table at PRIME
For food and wine lovers, PRIME offers its private Chef's Table, featuring a specially designed menu, carefully selected pairings, and personalized service. An even more exclusive way to discover the cuisine of the resort's signature grill.

Fun Facts
One&Only Le Saint Géran is not simply one of the great hotels in Mauritius: its history is closely linked to the birth of modern luxury tourism on the island. It was officially opened on October 20, 1975, by Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the first prime minister of independent Mauritius, at a time when the Mauritian tourism sector was still in its early stages of development. In 2025, on the hotel’s 50th anniversary, the office of the Prime Minister of Mauritius itself described its opening as a milestone that helped transform the then-emerging tourism landscape and set a new standard for luxury hospitality on the island.
The property is also closely associated with Sol Kerzner, who made Le Saint Géran his first major foray into the hotel industry outside of South Africa. The property underwent significant renovations in 1985 and 1990, followed by a major reconstruction around 1999–2000, joined the newly created One&Only brand in 2002, came under Kerzner’s direct control as part of a corporate reorganization in 2007, and underwent another radical transformation before its reopening in December 2017, following an investment estimated at approximately $55 million.
Its social significance is equally remarkable. A particularly valuable source is the archive of L’Express de Mauricio: in 2005, Stephan Fanchette, the hotel’s public relations manager, specifically identified Nelson Mandela, Prince William, the Swedish royal family, Amitabh Bachchan, Stéphanie of Monaco, Tom Jones, Rihanna, John Travolta, Platini, Eric Cantona, Jean Reno, Isabelle Huppert, Sharon Stone, Björn Borg, Hubert de Givenchy, and Roger Federer, among others.
There is also a documented connection to the film industry: Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, and Jean-Louis Trintignant were in Mauritius in May 1980 for the filming of Claude Berri’s *Je vous aime*, and some scenes were shot at Le Saint Géran. It is one of the best-documented episodes in the hotel’s cultural history.
For decades , Le Saint Géran brought together African political leaders, members of European royal families, French celebrities, Hollywood actors, Bollywood stars, tennis players, and fashion designers. It is significant that the documented guest list includes, among others, Nelson Mandela, Amitabh Bachchan, John Travolta, Catherine Deneuve, Björn Borg, and Hubert de Givenchy: the hotel served as a meeting point for several of the international markets that Mauritius needed to attract.
There is also an important Mauritian cultural element. The name was not a marketing ploy: it refers to the Saint-Géran, the ship whose wreck off the coast of Mauritius became part of the island’s collective memory and was immortalized by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre in *Paul et Virginie*. The Bibliothèque nationale de France holds illustrations and historical texts dedicated to the shipwreck, including the famous scene of Virginie facing the disaster.
Saint-Géran: A Blend of History, Literature, and Legend
The ship that gave the hotel its name
The most significant story associated with the hotel actually predates the establishment itself by more than two centuries. The name comes from the Saint-Géran, a ship whose shipwreck off the coast of Mauritius became one of the defining episodes in the island’s collective imagination. Bernardin de Saint-Pierre used the disaster as a central element in *Paul et Virginie*, a novel published in the late 18th century, transforming a historical maritime tragedy into one of the best-known scenes in French literature of that era. The BnF preserves both texts and illustrations of the shipwreck.
It is important to distinguish between history and fiction here. The Saint-Géran and its shipwreck are part of Mauritius’s maritime history; Paul and Virginie are literary characters. The novel’s success ultimately blurred the lines between the two stories to such an extent that popular Mauritian memory often recalls the shipwreck through Virginie’s fictional fate. The BnF itself explains how the maritime episode was immortalized by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre’s work.
This lends the hotel’s name an unusual depth: Le Saint Géran does not merely use a French word with colonial overtones, but rather draws on one of the founding narratives of the island’s cultural imagination. This literary connection has been documented for decades in the Mauritian press itself and continues to be part of the resort’s contemporary narrative.
