Why choose a trip to Mauritius and Rodrigues?

Mauritius and Rodrigues are ideal destinations for family vacations, honeymoons, or anyone who wants to combine idyllic beaches with exclusive accommodation, exquisite service, and a multitude of activities and excursions.

Dream vacations in unforgettable destinations

The Republic of Mauritius is made up of 49 islands and islets, notably Mauritius and Rodrigues, which belong to the Mascarene archipelago, as does Réunion Island (a French overseas department). A country with a population of 1.3 million and good infrastructure in terms of tourism, roads, and services, this small island measures 45 km from west to east and 65 km from south to north.

However, Mauritius is much more than just idyllic beaches where you can enjoy unforgettable experiences such as climbing the legendary Le Morne Brabant mountain, visiting the Seven Colored Earths of Chamarel, exploring the Black River Gorges National Park, visiting the lively town of Grand Baie, sailing to the islets of Île aux Aigrettes or Île aux Cerfs, flying over the famous “underwater waterfall” by helicopter, skydiving, or soaking up the local culture…

The Dutch, French, and British heritage of the islands is reflected in colonial mansions and botanical gardens such as the Jardin des Pamplemousses. The cultural diversity—Creole, European, African, Indian, Arab, and Chinese—gives the island a genuine authenticity. Its colorful markets, Hindu and Tamil temples, mosques, wide variety of cuisine, and the Creole dance called Sega are just some of its cultural attractions.

When is the best time to travel to Mauritius or Rodrigues Island?

Although Mauritius is an ideal place to visit at any time of year, it is worth noting that there are two distinct seasons because Mauritius is in the southern hemisphere and the seasons are reversed compared to Europe.

Summer: November to April

The weather is hot and humid during these months, with peak temperatures in December, January, and February reaching 30ºC. Rainfall is abundant, especially in the central plateau. In general, the heaviest rainfall occurs in February and March. Normally, daylight hours are from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This is the best time for diving (especially from December to March) and deep-sea fishing. The cyclone season runs from November to April. Most of the time, cyclones manage to avoid Mauritius due to the small size of the island. However, in the event that a cyclone makes landfall, you have nothing to worry about: all beach resorts are designed to withstand hurricane-force winds.

Winter: May to October

The temperature is cooler during this season and the prevailing winds tend to blow over the island from the east and southeast. The lowest temperatures are experienced in August (20°C on the coast). Normally, daylight hours are from 6:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. This is the best season for surfing (June to August).

On the central plateau, which is about 600 meters above sea level, the average daytime temperature ranges from 20°C in August to 26°C in February. On the coast, temperatures are three to five degrees higher. The northern and western parts of the island are warmer and drier than the eastern and southern regions.

However, as it is a tropical island, rain can occur any day of the year, more so inland than on the coast, although the rainiest months are from January to April.

How many days do you need to spend in Mauritius to explore the whole island? And in Rodrigues?

Mauritius is an ideal destination to combine with any active trip to Africa. In this case, we recommend spending at least four nights there to enjoy its idyllic beaches and exceptional hotel infrastructure. If your trip is exclusively to Mauritius and you also want to visit Rodrigues, you will need a minimum of nine nights at your destination.

We put our extensive knowledge of the islands at your disposal to design or advise you on the trip that best suits your travel preferences. To get the most out of your trip, take the time you need and be sure to go on excursions and visits to really get to know the islands. Mauritius is not just about idyllic beaches.
