Discovered in the 18th century and named for its unique, virtually flat terrain, Platte Island was for decades a remote coconut plantation and even served as a quarantine station for ships arriving in the Seychelles. Today, this tiny coral island is home to a single resort, the Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island, which opened in 2024.
A DIFFERENT SIDE OF THE SEYCHELLES
Staying on Platte Island means discovering the Seychelles from a completely different perspective. Its remote location, about 130 km south of Mahé, means that the usual excursions to Praslin, La Digue, or other islands in the archipelago do not depart from here. But it is precisely this isolation that accounts for much of its uniqueness.
Platte Island is a small coral sanctuary surrounded by an extraordinary marine ecosystem, where the experience consists of exploring what happens on and around the island itself: sailing its waters, snorkeling and diving among its reefs, spotting sea turtles and giant tortoises, discovering its birdlife, or strolling along its virtually untouched beaches. More than just a starting point for exploring other parts of the Seychelles,
Platte Island is a destination in its own right—a place to pause and discover one of the most remote and well-preserved environments in the archipelago.
