Madagascar RADAMESE ARCHIPELAGO CRUISE
ItineraryRates and DatesExtensions+ Info
You will agree with us that the best way to get to know an archipelago is to sail its waters and visit its islands. It is for this reason that we offer a wide variety of cruises in catamaran, sailboat or traditional butre in the archipelagos of Nosy Be, Radames, Mitsio or along the north or west coast of Madagascar.
This life on board cruise will take you to discover the Radames Archipelago located south of the island of Nosy Be. And it is an ideal culmination to a circuit in the North of the island as our “After the Green Heart” or “The Island Continent”. The Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve, the peaceful Bay of the Russians, the mangroves of Baramahamay, the paradisiacal Nosy Kalakajoro…. and the most awaited stopover of this cruise, the visit to the iconic island of Nosy Iranja, the island of turtles, considered one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
Itinerary
DAY 1
NOSY BE / NOSY TANIKELY / BAY OF THE RUSSIANS
Boarding at the port of the Crater in Nosy Be. Departure at 09h00 to the Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve. It is an impressive natural aquarium thanks to its crystal clear waters and its shallow depth that allows sunlight to enter to delight us with an infinity of colors: diversity of corals, rays, dolphins, nudibranchs, fish such as clown fish, butterfly fish, surgeon fish, parrot fish, 3-banded damsels, bat fish, lion fish or scorpion fish… and so on up to an infinity of colorful fish… also the red-spined starfish, a precious species of star of the Indian Ocean. It is also a privileged place for the observation of imbricate and green turtles.
A sanctuary where the tranquility of those who know they are protected reigns and the rhythm of nature marks the evolution of the species. Aquatic life develops in total harmony and we want it to be so for a long time, so take care of the island during your visit, use a “water friendly” sunscreen or better yet a lycra suit to protect you from the sun and at the same time protect a seabed of exceptional richness.
Paradisiacal beaches and a 1908 lighthouse from where we can get a 360 º view over the bay of Ampasindava. We will also find lemurs such as the macaque, bats, reptiles…
Lunch on board and continuation to the Bay of the Russians, about 4 hours of navigation. This bay is named after the Russian ships that called here during the war between Russia and Japan in 1905. It is now a peaceful bay where you can listen to the song of the birds that nest on its coast or swim with green turtles, dolphins or whale sharks (depending on the season). There are also some villages of the Sakalava ethnic group scattered in the area that live mainly from fishing. Dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 2
BAY OF THE RUSSIANS / NOSY KALAKAJORO
Breakfast and first swim of the day before weighing anchor and continue sailing to the first island of the Radames archipelago, Nosy Kalakajoro, 32 nautical miles, approximately 6 hours of navigation. Lunch en route and arrival at the beach of fine white sand, where we can take a swim in its clear waters or snorkel. Those who wish may climb to the highest part of the island through a ridge from which we will get a beautiful panoramic view. We will also visit the village of nomadic fishermen and the construction of traditional handmade canoes and butres. Dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 3
NOSY KALAKAJORO / NOSY VALIHA
Breakfast and sailing to the island of Nosy Antanimora, about 1h30 where we can snorkel and disembark to walk along the coast and meet the fishermen who live there. We will continue our navigation to Nosy Valiha at 1h by sail. This island is famous for its corals, its seabed and its colorful fish. Possibility to walk through its vegetation and meet some of the few inhabitants who live completely isolated except for the passage of some boats.

DAY 4
NOSY VALIHA / BARAMAHAMAY
Breakfast and navigation for 6 hours to reach the estuary of the Baramahamay River. We will discover a magnificent bay with small coves and scattered villages. Its welcoming population will offer us locally produced honey, the catch of the day or mangrove crabs. The bay extends to the estuary of the river and then becomes a winding channel of several kilometers of mangroves. If the tide is high we can explore the mangroves, a magical moment to observe the water birds that flutter in the wetlands.

DAY 5
BARAMAHAMAY / NOSY IRANJA / NOSY BE
Today the day holds a fascinating encounter, the paradisiacal island of Nosy Iranja, known as the island of turtles as it is the nesting place of the green turtles and the “imbricate” or hawksbill turtles. Just an hour’s sail away we will see two tropical islets, Iranja Be and Iranja Kely, with exuberant vegetation, joined by an extensive tongue of sand that appears during the day and disappears at sunset in a subtle swaying of the waves.
Visit the small village, where women sell embroidered tablecloths and sarongs to travelers who come to this corner of paradise. We recommend the climb to the lighthouse where we can enjoy the iconic aerial image of the island. We will enjoy a swim in its turquoise waters in the company of sea turtles. Lunch on board and return to Nosy Be. Arrival around 17h00. Transfer and installation at the hotel.

CHARACTERISTICS OF OUR TRIPS
Our trips are designed from knowledge, we are residents on the island since 2006 and our team performs more than 17 annual surveys throughout the geography of the island, to verify on the ground the state of parks, trails, hotels, new developments and discover new treasures that still, to this day, remain hidden in our island-continent and that for the moment we try to preserve until we do not have a policy of environmental protection. Our update is almost daily.
Any tour in Madagascar leaves room for the unexpected, hence we ask for your flexibility in approaching the trip as travelers and not as conventional tourists.
To participate in our trips, a minimum level of physical fitness is required, otherwise you will not be able to enjoy the parks, landscapes, or some of the animist villages farther away from the conventional routes.
Our adventure trips are not for everyone, they are participatory trips, in which you will not be made to row or wash your cutlery, for this we give employment to the local population, however, we want your passage through the island to cause the least possible impact, neither environmental nor social, that is where we ask for your collaboration.
The hotels are varied, from some 5* to simple lodges, depending on the hotel infrastructure. Adventure is not incompatible with comfort, we will never camp (free camping is prohibited in Madagascar, it is only possible in “authorized” places although they do not have any infrastructure similar to a campsite, no toilets or showers) if right next door we have a minimally correct accommodation and that our passage can benefit the local population. We always try to include the best hotels available, but sometimes we are forced to use simple lodges because the location does not have more hotel infrastructure or because it is located in an exceptional place that deserves the stay.
Madagascar does not have a tourist infrastructure like neighboring countries in their safaris, but that gives it the charm of an unspoiled and uncrowded country (150,000 tourists per year). We ask for an open spirit and large doses of patience to our travelers. That way you will enjoy your trip much more.

Unique, surprising and unforgettable island
Madagascar; it sounds remote, like a cartoon movie and impossible animals. It is that, and also an island-country with little tourism that oozes African sap sweetened with Asian touches.
Descend a river between jungle canyons and sleep on its beaches protected from crocodiles; go deep into the jungle and listen to the sounds of its most characteristic animals, the lemurs; dive among tropical fish with the sound of humpback whales in the background; stroll at sunset along an avenue lined with giant baobabs; discover impressive rock formations in the shape of thousands of needles; taste seafood seasoned with French-influenced dyes or simply stroll along a beach waiting for the arrival of fishermen. All this is Madagascar.
Madagascar promises disconnection, adventure and exoticism…and with Indigo Be you get it!
Thank you for being wonderful hosts of this unique, surprising and unforgettable island.
