On a small private island in the Mitsio Archipelago, surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Mozambique Channel, Constance Tsarabanjina invites you to discover one of Madagascar’s most exclusive and untamed sides. Here there are no roads, no large buildings, and no artificial structures—just white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and a few bungalows nestled in the natural surroundings.

The Hotel
Constance Tsarabanjina is an exclusive lodge located on a private island in the Mitsio Archipelago, northwest of Madagascar. Designed as a barefoot retreat, it features just 25 Beach Villas, spread along the island’s northern and southern beaches and built with natural materials to blend discreetly into the surroundings.
The hotel features a main restaurant overlooking the ocean, specializing in fish, seafood, and Malagasy- and internationally-inspired cuisine, as well as a beachfront bar. The stay is offered on an all-inclusive basis, specially tailored to the island’s remote location.
Its facilities are rounded out by the unique Spa on the Rocks, a diving center, and various areas dedicated to water sports. Snorkeling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, scuba diving, fishing, and boat tours allow guests to explore the reefs and landscapes of the Mitsio Archipelago, while on land, guests can enjoy walks around the island and various beach activities.
Without large-scale infrastructure or conventional buildings, Tsarabanjina offers an intimate, low-impact hospitality experience, where the island itself is the main attraction:
white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and a pristine natural environment.
Restaurants & Bars
Tsarabanjina Restaurant
The lodge features a main restaurant facing the ocean, with a casual atmosphere and a sand floor, where Malagasy cuisine is combined with international influences. The fresh fish and seafood, along with local produce, are particularly noteworthy. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinner offers a more leisurely experience by the ocean. The dress code couldn’t be more in keeping with the island: “relaxed barefoot.”
The Bar
. Overlooking the lagoon and also featuring a sandy floor, it’s one of the island’s popular hangouts. It serves cocktails, local drinks, wines, and light snacks, and is especially pleasant at sunset. A detail I like to include in the profile: it officially has no set closing time; it stays open until the last guest leaves.
In addition, the hotel operates on an all-inclusive basis, which includes meals, a wide selection of beverages, wines, and cocktails, a minibar, and afternoon tea. Special dinners on the beach can also be arranged, though these are subject to an additional charge.

AN ISLAND WHERE YOU CAN REALLY UNPLUG
Tsarabanjina is a small private island in the Mitsio Archipelago, off the northwest coast of Madagascar. Its seclusion is part of the experience: there are no roads, cars, or large hotel complexes here. Life unfolds between two white-sand beaches, the reef, and the trails that wind through the island’s vegetation.
HOW TO GET THERE
Access is via Nosy Be, combining a transfer to the boarding point with a speedboat ride of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to Tsarabanjina. Arriving by sea allows you to appreciate the lodge’s remote location from the very beginning and gradually discover the islands of the Mitsio Archipelago.
BAREFOOT SPIRIT
Tsarabanjina offers a deliberately simple and relaxed way to travel. It does not seek to replicate the concept of a large five-star resort: its exclusivity lies precisely in its 25 villas, the privacy, the constant connection with nature, and an informal atmosphere where much of daily life is spent barefoot on the sand.
THE MITSIO ARCHIPELAGO
This trip offers the chance to discover a region of Madagascar that few travelers know about. The archipelago consists of small islands and volcanic rock formations, notably Grande Mitsio, Les Quatre Frères, and their impressive basalt columns. Its waters also offer excellent opportunities for snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing.
AN ISLAND WITH A SACRED HISTORY
Tsarabanjina also holds great significance for the Sakalava communities in the region. At one end of the island lies a small islet considered sacred, where ancient burial sites and places linked to local traditions can still be found. This cultural heritage is part of the island’s identity and should always be visited with respect.
WHO DO WE RECOMMEND TSARABANJINA FOR?
Especially for couples, honeymooners, and travelers seeking privacy and nature, as well as for those who want to wrap up a tour of Madagascar with a few days by the sea without losing the feeling of exploring the country. It’s also an excellent choice for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts.
More than just a stretch of beach,
Tsarabanjina is an island experience in and of itself: a place to get away from it all and discover one of the best-preserved corners of northern Madagascar.
