La Maison 20 Degrés Sud is an exclusive 5-star adults-only boutique hotel and a member of Relais & Châteaux, located in Pointe Malartic, on the shores of the Grand Baie lagoon in northern Mauritius. Surrounded by an old coconut plantation and designed with the intimate feel of a private home, it features just 36 accommodations—29 rooms and 7 suites—spread throughout the tropical gardens and along the waterfront. A Maison with a rich history
Before becoming one of the most unique boutique hotels in Mauritius, 20° Sud was a former colonial house surrounded by coconut palms, which was transformed in 1985 into a small hotel known as Colonial Coconut. Years later, in 2007, it adopted its current name, 20 Degrés Sud, inspired by the 20th parallel south that runs across the island. Its induction into Relais & Châteaux in 2013 further cemented the philosophy of an intimate and personal “Maison” that still defines the hotel today.
Part of its charm lies precisely in the fact that 20° Sud never feels like a large resort. Its nooks and crannies, patios, gardens, and terraces preserve the spirit of a seaside residence, where elegance is expressed discreetly and life unfolds at the leisurely pace of Grand Baie.
And among its little treasures is the M/S Lady Lisbeth, a wooden boat built in 1929 and considered the oldest motorboat in Mauritius. Restored to preserve its original character, it now sails once again across the bay, transformed into one of the Maison’s most exclusive dining venues: only eight guests can board to enjoy a gourmet dinner under the stars.
